The brand

FLOS

Founded in 1962 in Merano, Italy, Flos is an international company specialising in designer lighting, offering a complete ... range of contemporary floor lamps, modern wall lights, designer pendants and designer table lamps for residential, contract, and architectural lighting sectors. From the beginning, Flos established itself as a global reference for Italian illuminated furniture, combining technological innovation with artistic creativity. In 1968, Flos opened its first store, marking a new stage in its international presence. Today, Flos is one of the best-known Italian manufacturers, and its name is inseparable from contemporary lighting design. The brand conceives and produces iconic lamps based on a modern and avant-garde vision of light. Each creation makes Flos an essential player in the world of designer lighting. The Flos catalogue gathers pieces that have become legendary. Perhaps the most emblematic example is the Arco floor lamp designed by the brothers Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni, a true 20th-century icon that continues to enhance interiors today. Another notable collaboration is with Philippe Starck, which gave rise to refined collections such as Ktribe and Miss K. Flos pendants, wall lights and designer floor lamps demonstrate this unique ability to combine technical innovation with formal poetry. The brand also made history in design with its use of the material “cocoon”, a plastic resin developed in the United States. It first appeared in the 1960s in the Gatto lamp, and later, in 2007, in the spectacular Skygarden imagined by Marcel Wanders. This boldness reflects Flos’s commitment to constantly pushing the limits of materials and technologies. Flos’s creativity is also expressed through collaborations with leading contemporary designers such as Jasper Morrison, Patricia Urquiola and Antonio Citterio.

Each has brought their sensitivity and innovative vision, enriching the brand’s identity and giving rise to a diverse range of collections, from minimalist to luxurious styles. The Italian company has also distinguished itself through international success, accumulating numerous prestigious awards, including five Compasso d’Oro, recognising its major role in the evolution of Italian lighting design. In 2005, Flos diversified its offerings with the creation of Flos Architectural Lighting, dedicated to professional projects and contract environments, confirming its expertise in technical and decorative lighting. The Flos catalogue is designed to meet all needs and environments: from the modern office to the designer dining room, from the contemporary living room to large public spaces. Each year, the Italian house manages to create a buzz with bold new releases, generating immediate excitement among design enthusiasts and interior architects. Today, Flos more than ever embodies the meeting of art and industry, tradition and modernity. Its designer floor lamps, contemporary wall lights, elegant pendants and iconic table lamps are not merely functional objects: they are true works that tell the story of Italian design. Thanks to its capacity for innovation and prestigious collaborations, Flos continues to define the standards of designer lighting, creating lighting that can transform a space and move those who inhabit it. How can Flos lighting enhance an interior?

Flos lighting does more than illuminate — it transforms a space. By playing with contrasts and intensity, it creates bespoke atmospheres, from warm and intimate to dramatic. A pendant from the IC collection above a dining table creates balance and elegance, while the Arco lamp becomes a sculptural focal point in a modern living room. For Flos, light is a language — one that defines architecture, highlights materials, and reveals a room’s true personality.

Which environments suit Flos lighting best?

Flos creations integrate effortlessly into both private and professional settings. Thanks to their refined design, they complement minimalist as well as eclectic interiors. Whether it’s a pendant, a discreet table lamp, or an architectural lighting system, each Flos piece adapts perfectly to the space’s style and function.

How can Flos lighting be maintained and preserved?

Maintaining Flos lighting is simple yet essential to preserve its brilliance and longevity. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid abrasive products that could damage finishes. LED-equipped lamps require minimal maintenance and offer extended lifespan. Crafted from materials like brushed aluminium, blown glass, marble, and brass, each Flos light retains its beauty and performance for years to come.

How does Flos approach sustainability?

Flos is deeply committed to sustainable design. Its lighting incorporates high-efficiency LED technology to reduce energy consumption while providing superior illumination. Materials are chosen for their resilience and recyclability, and each product is engineered for lasting technical and aesthetic performance. Investing in a Flos lamp means choosing a timeless, durable object built to outlive trends and generations.
