Designed by Jonathan Muecke for Knoll, the Muecke Armchair is a meditation on wood as much as a seat, one of those pieces that are born from a deep conviction that materials have a logic of their own which it is more a matter of revealing than concealing. Muecke chose to celebrate all the characteristics of wood, including the end grain, by rounding up the material into trunnions and imagining an assembly system where they intersect, thus creating a structure in which each junction openly tells of its own construction. In its ebony black finish associated with the black Ducale velvet, it achieves a total chromatic coherence and a remarkable visual depth, where the dullness of dark wood dialogues with the velvety of the fabric to compose an ensemble of an austere and sophisticated elegance. Its slanted seat and backrest keep the body in a relaxed and natural posture, while the repeated precision of the assemblies gives the piece that immediately recognizable formal rhythm which is the signature of the entire Muecke Wood collection.
