The Bestlite BL3 floor lamp by Gubi was designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best, a British designer heavily influenced by Bauhaus. The design of the Bestlite lamp was first adopted by Royal Air Force garages and technical departments because of its great functionality. Public demand for Bestlite lamps soon followed and, when Winston Churchill personally chose the Bestlite BL1 table lamp for his office, Bestlite's iconic status was achieved.
