The
PH Louvre was designed by Poul Henningsen for the Adventist church in Skodborg, Denmark, in 1957. The globe-shaped suspension is made up of 13 shades mounted on four supports. This is a simplified version of an earlier luminaire designed by Poul Henningsen in 1942, the Spiral. Published by
Louis Poulsen, the luminaire provides lighting without the slightest glare. Its spherical shape is designed to illuminate all surrounding surfaces at the same angle, creating uniform light on both walls and ceilings. The interior surfaces are matt, while the upper surfaces are glossy to create light reflections and, as a result, diffuse light evenly around the
PH Louvre.
