A pioneer in the creation of "total look" lamps, American designer Bill Curry designed the Obello lamp in 1971 from a single glass shape, eliminating the need for a separate base. Using the shape of a mushroom, he drew his inspiration from the atomic age, the space race and pop culture that would come to define the Los Angeles of the 1970s. Sadly, he died that same year and never saw the Obello lamp go into production.
Half a century later, Gubi is putting this innovative design into production for the first time in a portable version. With a frosted, blown-glass diffuser and two integrated, dimmable LED sources, this rechargeable lamp is easy to move between indoors and outdoors. Fully charged for 4.5 hours, Obello provides up to 40 hours of light, creating a soft atmosphere as night falls.
The materiality of the glass and the craftsmanship bring a tactile aspect and make each Obello lamp unique. The dimmer switch lets you gradually increase the light to extend the evening after sunset. The frosted glass and two LED sources provide perfectly distributed diffused light.
Although it has to be stored and recharged indoors, the Gubi Obello lamp is splashproof and therefore resistant to small showers. It can also be laid on the ground or sand.
