Created in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, Soriana is an armchair lounge chair that is comfortable but also revolutionary, as it rethought the design of upholstered furniture. Thanks to new polyurethane foam moulding techniques, Soriana was the first armchair to do away with an internal support. It takes shape by adapting to the metal structure that surrounds it. Soriana won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro prize in 1970, as a masterpiece of complexity yet achieved with simple means. The Soriana armchair plays on the balance between formal and informal form, making it an inviting armchair suitable for all styles of space. Cassina and Tobia Scarpa have collaborated to update the Soriana armchair as part of the Cassina LAB project, focused on promoting wellbeing and sustainable design. The Soriana chaise longue armchair, published by Cassina, is not only an example of innovative design, but also incorporates sustainable materials, helping to promote a more environmentally friendly approach to the furniture industry.
