A classic shape reimagined, the Atlas lacquered stool makes a bold statement with its chunky silhouette and high-gloss lacquered finish. Designed by John Astbury for New Works, it takes its name from the mythical Titan condemned to carry the heavens on his shoulders, its solid legs standing firm beneath the rounded seat.
The interplay between legs and seat lies at the heart of the design: each element exaggerates the other, giving the Atlas lacquered stool its distinctive presence and brutalist edge. Two primary archetypes, the circle and the square, come together to define its character and composition.
Equally at home as extra seating or as a side table, this versatile stool also holds its own as a stand-alone piece. Crafted from FSC-certified MDF, the Atlas lacquered stool by New Works truly comes alive when paired with contrasting textures, soft, raw or matte, for a faceted, contemporary look.
