Designed by the Ingo Maurer Team, the in-house design team of Ingo Maurer, the Strange Little Thing pendant light strips lighting down to its essentials: no unnecessary parts, no conventional form, just a tiny lighting object that is raw, reduced and yet highly functional. Hung alone above a desk, a console or a bedside table, or multiplied to form a minimalist chandelier, Strange Little Thing adapts in seconds: a featherlight clip lets the lighting element slide freely along its cable, and its second USB-C port allows further elements to be daisy-chained, so the installation can grow and evolve over time. At its core is a small circuit board that concentrates a miniature optic, an illuminated button, a high-performance LED and two USB-C ports into a minimal space, resting on an asymmetrically cut sheet of aluminium. All technical components are deliberately left visible, by choice rather than necessity, in a playful engagement with technology that invites curiosity. Borrowing from the world of computers and smartphones, it takes standard USB-C cables and a driver sourced from peripheral device technology, familiar elements lifted out of their everyday context, a recurring theme in the brand's work. Even the ceiling mount is reimagined: a surface-mounted Schuko socket receives a small plug-in power adapter, while a delicate bracket holds the USB cable in place with a Velcro tie, a pragmatic, industrial solution that reads as a whimsical gesture. Precise, clear and surprisingly powerful light for its size, dimmable output, freely repositionable elements and a modular system: Strange Little Thing proves that Ingo Maurer can draw poetry from the most unexpected object.
