Thonet, the
cantilever chair S 32 is the most universal of tubular steel furniture. Navigating easily between the different styles of decoration, it fits perfectly in a resolutely modern room as well as in a space where different styles and eras meet. The
S 32 cantilever chair and the
S 64 variant with armrests are undoubtedly the best-known tubular steel classics. Their popularity stems from the successful combination of new and old with, on the one hand, the tradition of
Thonet as a manufacturer of bentwood furniture upholstered in typical Viennese cane, and on the other, the revolutionary use of tubular steel. The backrest and seat in solid wood and cane embody tradition, the legs symbolise the present and the future.
Marcel Breuer designed the
S 32 and
S 64 models in 1928, during his years in Berlin.
Thonet has been producing these two models since 1930. Thanks to their aesthetic reduction, the clarity of their shapes and the lightness of the cane, the
seats S 32 and S 64 are suitable for all types of environment, such as conference rooms, waiting rooms, restaurants and private interiors.
