Designed by Sebastian Hepting for Ingo Maurer, the Nalum pendant light translates the movement of ocean waves and the play of light on the water's surface into a remarkably light, airy luminaire. Its name combines "nalu", the Hawaiian word for wave, which also evokes reflection and contemplation, with "lum", a nod to light. With a linear light source that shines both upwards and downwards, Nalum is ideally suited to long dining or conference tables, as well as prestigious spaces that call for both targeted and ambient lighting; its two lighting components can be dimmed independently and emit a warm white light of 2700 K. At the heart of the luminaire, a handmade wave-shaped glass tube, each one unique in its structure, is lit from the outside: through reflection and refraction, its contours create lines of light, depth and movement, as if the object were made entirely of water and light. A second, outer glass tube acts as a calm frame that stabilises the form, enhances the lighting effect and makes the technical elements all but disappear, with the light source discreetly held in place by magnets. A single filigree cable runs through the pendant, allowing the light to be directed with precision and the wave to be staged anew at will, while the surfer figurines included, to be placed freely on the waves, add the playful touch that is the signature of Ingo Maurer. A unique handcrafted glass piece, two independently dimmable light sources, warm and enveloping light and a weightless silhouette: Nalum blends technology, poetry and wit to bring every table to life.
