With the portable Raku lamp, craftsmanship takes centre stage. Named after the traditional Japanese pottery technique, Raku is a compact lamp with considerable presence. It features a hand-sculpted ceramic base with a crackle-effect glaze that varies slightly from piece to piece, making each lamp unique. When designing Raku, Sebastian Herkner was guided by the selection of materials. As an advocate of craftsmanship and its values, the designer has chosen two metallic finishes for the rounded lampshade, perfectly complementing the ceramic base. On the edge of the shade, subtle perforations allow the light to spread gently into its surroundings. Depending on the mood you want, the light intensity can be dimmed. Edited by And Tradition, the small portable Raku lamp is available in two colour combinations: blue green and brass or beige grey and bronze.
Born in Germany in 1981, Sebastian Herkner studied Product Design at the University of Arts and Design in Offenbach, graduating in 2007. He founded his own eponymous studio in 2006, also in the same city, specialising in object and furniture design. Following an internship at Stella McCartney during his studies, he developed a real sensitivity to colours, materials and textures. "There is a sensibility and identity to my work that emphasises function, material and detail." Sebastian Herkner also works on interior architecture projects and museum exhibitions. His many collaborations testify to his talent, including ClassiCon with the famous Bell table, Moroso, Pulpo, Cappellini, Gubi, And Tradition, La Chance, Zanotta and Thonet. His curiosity for different cultures is reflected in his creations. He combines traditional craftsmanship with new technologies to achieve a certain balance. Winner of numerous awards, he has been named "Designer of the Year" by the Maison & Objet show in 2019.
