Created in 1972, the Bohemian 72 collection combines Gabriella Crespi's interest in natural materials, her fascination with sculptural forms and her curiosity about Eastern cultures and philosophies. During his lifetime, these exclusive pieces were produced only for private clients, but now, 50 years after their conception, Gubi has returned to Crespi's original designs to produce this collection for the first time.
Comprising an armchair, a 3-seater sofa, a footstool and a lamp, the Bohemian 72 collection embodies Gabriella Crespi's career-long goal of creating furniture that harmoniously unites indoor and outdoor living. Drawn to rattan for its strength and versatility, she designed these pieces at a time when rattan was very much in vogue. Nevertheless, the way he worked it was unusual for the time.
Recreating the original design of these pieces required a high level of craftsmanship, as rattan is a natural material that is difficult to standardise. The colour, texture and dimensions vary easily from one plant to another. For all four pieces, the rattan is finished with an antique stain and gloss varnish to ensure a consistent look and warm texture.
The Bohemian 72 luminaire features a vertical arrangement of rattan with brass detailing. The pattern created by the rattan allows the lamp to project a play of light and shadow onto the surrounding floor, evoking a warm, bohemian atmosphere.
