A great admirer of Alexander Calder, Bernard Schottlander created a series of lamps and luminaires called MANTIS. in 1951. Playing on the tension between balance and imbalance, his luminaires, like mobiles, seem to defy the laws of gravity. The Mantis collection is now published by DCW éditions.  The Mantis BS1 Mantis BS1 DCW éditions showcases the work and inspiration of Bernard Schottlander, creator of the magnificent Mantis lamps. Movement is the source of inspiration for all Schottlander's work: as an artist, engineer and tinkerer, he developed a clever system of pivots and counterweights, and used flexible, resistant metal rods. The lampshade of Mantis BS1, casts light like an acrobat in the air.  Indeed, Mantis BS1 by DCW éditions, is a luminaire of great singularity and rare elegance, positioned above an armchair or table.
