With an intriguing relationship between material and concept, the X HM10 armchair represents Hvidt & Mølgaard's pinnacle as designers. After years of experimenting with a wooden frame inspired by old tennis rackets, in 1959 the design duo presented a lounge chair with a distinctive sloping silhouette and discreet aesthetic. An extremely elegant design piece that consolidates their reputation as pioneers of Danish design, the armchair X reflects Hvidt and Mølgaard's unorthodox approach to construction principles. The archive sketches show how the designers examined and tested materials before settling on a seat in woven rattan, supported by a graceful structure in oiled oak. The armchair also stands out for its cleverly designed walnut insert, which contrasts with the oak. With its reduced proportions and natural materials, theX HM10 armchair And Tradition finds its place in all types of spaces.
