Description

With MR01 initial, Mathias Steen Rasmussen combines traditional craftsmanship with an original idea and simple form. The minimalism of the chair does not detract from its incredible comfort, because Mathias Steen Rasmussen originally designed it for his own home, to be used as a meditation chair. Published by Gubi, this lounge chair has a wooden frame, assembled without any screws, and natural linen rope to create the seat and back. The rope is hand-braided onto the structure and secured simply by passing through four holes, a method that is both simple and ingenious. Featuring an 'anti-deformation' core, the rope has been specially created by Italian craftsmen who specialise in marine ropes. As well as being lightweight, the use of rope allows air to pass through for a cool, comfortable experience on hot days. Adding a blanket or sheepskin is a cosy option for winter. The lightness of the MR01 Initial chair makes it easy to move around, while its flexibility and small footprint are perfectly suited to today's urban lifestyles. The name MR01 Initial pays homage to the Danish masters who named their creations with their initials followed by a number, and at the same time emphasises that this armchair is the very first piece by Mathias Rasmussen to be produced.
