Description
For its new collection, furniture brand Hay has invited French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec to design a new range of furniture for the University of Copenhagen. The collection includes a chair, a bar stool and various tables. The designers were inspired by a university chair designed by architect Bernt Pedersen, with a simple identity. The Copenhagen series seeks to maintain the obvious simplicity that characterises this chair with its trestle leg, while at the same time creating a range of school furniture that is in keeping with the times and adapts to the functional needs of a university. The collection departs slightly from the institutional spirit of the original chair in terms of its originality and its forms.

Born in 1971 and 1976 in Quimper, France, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec pursued their studies at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the École nationale supérieure d’arts in Cergy-Pontoise, respectively. In 1999, the brothers teamed up to establish a design studio in Paris. Their work spans the creation of home accessories and objects (vases, tableware, jewelry…), furniture for the home and office, as well as architectural projects that involve spatial planning and design. The chairs and armchairs by Erwan Bouroullec stand out for their organic and poetic design, combining comfort, modularity, and contemporary elegance. Among their standout creations, the "l'Algue" for Vitra, is a modular design that, when assembled, forms an asymmetrical and poetic room divider. Alongside designers like Jasper Morrison and Hella Jongerius, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec play a key role in the growing Vitra Home Collection. In recent years, they have also collaborated with brands like Alessi, KartellandNanimarquina designing pieces such as the Losanges rugs. Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec have earned numerous accolades, including Designer of the Year at Maison et Objet Now! in 2011, the Grand Prix du Design from the City of Paris in 1998, the New Designer Award at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York in 1999, and the Finn-Juhl Prize in Copenhagen in 2008.
