Published without interruption since 1957, the Superleggera chair embodies the fusion between the research of Italian designer Gio Ponti and the advanced innovation of the house Cassina. Superleggera is an icon of modernity and handcrafted refinement. The Superleggera chair takes its name from its exceptional lightness, achieved through the use of ash, a light, elastic wood that makes up its structure, and its slim, triangular-section legs. Ash is combined with a beech seat frame, which is more compact and resistant. The wooden elements of the Superleggera chair are carefully machine-worked and finished by hand, blending craftsmanship and industrial innovation to create a "primary object" inspired by traditional Chiavari chairs. The Superleggera chair by Cassina is available in its classic version with a wicker seat, but is also available with an upholstered seat.
