Description
The Can collection was born of designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec's desire to go beyond creating a simple piece of comfortable, aesthetically pleasing furniture. With this series published by Hay, their intention is to completely reinvigorate the idea we have of the sofa, and move from a complicated piece of furniture to a simple, accessible piece. The Can series includes two sizes of sofa and an armchair, each delivered flat-packed. The piece of furniture is easily assembled at home from three elements: a light yet sturdy metal frame, panels of fabric that stretch over the structure, and thick cushions. The result is a piece of furniture that stands out from other seating with its visual lightness and its welcoming, enveloping lines, perfect for a cosy living room.

Ronan & Erwan BOUROULLEC
Born in 1971 and 1976 in Quimper, France, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec pursued their studies at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the École nationale supérieure d’arts in Cergy-Pontoise, respectively. In 1999, the brothers teamed up to establish a design studio in Paris. Their work spans the creation of home accessories and objects (vases, tableware, jewelry…), furniture for the home and office, as well as architectural projects that involve spatial planning and design. The chairs and armchairs by Erwan Bouroullec stand out for their organic and poetic design, combining comfort, modularity, and contemporary elegance. Among their standout creations, the "l'Algue" for Vitra, is a modular design that, when assembled, forms an asymmetrical and poetic room divider. Alongside designers like Jasper Morrison and Hella Jongerius, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec play a key role in the growing Vitra Home Collection. In recent years, they have also collaborated with brands like Alessi, Kartell and Nanimarquina designing pieces such as the Losanges rugs. Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec have earned numerous accolades, including Designer of the Year at Maison et Objet Now! in 2011, the Grand Prix du Design from the City of Paris in 1998, the New Designer Award at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York in 1999, and the Finn-Juhl Prize in Copenhagen in 2008. Their works are housed in prestigious museums, including the MoMA and the Centre Pompidou. Through their collaborations with brands like Vitra, Hay annd Flos, Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec have become icons of 21st-century design.
