Created by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the German Pavilion at the 1929 International Exhibition in Barcelona, the Barcelona Chair has become an icon of modern architecture. Its refined composition reflects the very essence of modernist design. From its elegant crisscross frame to its cushions made of meticulously hand-stitched and assembled squares, each chair is a tribute to the union of contemporary design, high-end craftsmanship, and exceptional attention to detail. Architectural in form, the Barcelona Chair features a canted seat that offers a posture both relaxed and perfectly supported. It is upholstered in Haven fabric, available in four different colors, and features a polished chrome frame. To create the cushions, 40 individual squares of fabric are hand-sewn and tufted with buttons. The cushions are secured to the frame using belting leather straps, with edges dyed to match the upholstery. Each Barcelona Chair is an authentic piece designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The frame is stamped with the Knoll logo and the designer’s signature, certifying its authenticity and timeless value.
