SOUL -Souvenir of United Lebanon - is a collection of sculptural, poetic and emotionally charged wall lamps created by Charles Kalpakian for the DCW Editions brand. This series of six plaster lamps, to be installed as wall lights, can be viewed like entering a dark alley at dusk, suddenly pierced by a ray of unreal light.
From this humble, vernacular material, the designer has moulded six figures akin to Etruscan masks. In addition to the pure white of the matrix material, he may or may not have used gold leaf to sublimate the backlighting of each lamp.
A self-confessed biographical exercise, Soul allows us to contemplate each model through the eyes of a small metal figure, seated or standing, which DCW invites us to manipulate like a Kalpakian self-portrait.

Founded in 2008 by Philippe Cazer and Frédéric Winkler, the French company DCW Editions specializes in the design and reissue of lighting and furniture designs. Its goal is to give a second life to objects that have left their mark on the past. The objects reimagined by DCW Editions share key traits: they are well-designed, thoughtfully created, and expertly crafted. “C’est l’amour des objets qui nous a guidé dans l’aventure de DCW. Everyday objects, reliable in use, honest, well-designed, and well-made. Objects that we treat with care, and sometimes even with affection. It’s a way of living and seeing the world.”
