Description
Understated and timeless, the Alfi collection, designed by Jasper Morrison, embodies the values of the Emeco brand. Made from recycled materials, Alfi is designed in an environmentally friendly way. The chairs in the collection have a natural ash frame and a shell made of polypropylene and recycled sawdust. The collection reflects Emeco and Morrison's common interest in the invisible qualities behind simplicity – they share a conviction that what you don't see is as important as what you do. Jasper MORRISON
Born in London in 1959, Jasper Morrison studied at the Royal College of Art in London and continued his studies at the Berlin School of Fine Arts. In 1986, Jasper Morrison set up his own design studio in London. He attracted attention with the clear concepts of his installations "Reuters News Center" at documenta 8 in Kassel and "Some new items for the home" at the DAAD gallery in Berlin, which presented objects with highly refined lines in reaction to the formal exuberance of postmodernism. He became the pioneer of the "New Simplicity": a concept translated into a design imbued with simplicity and seriousness. His furniture creations include lamps, interior accessories and textiles, as well as a tramway for the city of Hanover and a bus stop for the Vitra site. Jasper Morrison adopts a rationalist approach to manufacturing processes and advocates an aesthetic devoid of superfluous details. This 'super normal' design has won over many manufacturers (Canon, Sony) and design brands such as Alessi, Flos (the Glo-Ball lamp), Cappellini (the surprising Thinking Man's Chair), SCP and Vitra, which gives a prominent place to its pieces in the Vitra Home range, including the Cork stools in natural cork.

EMECO
American furniture company Emeco was founded in 1944 to manufacture lightweight, non-corrosive, fire-resistant and anti-torpedo chairs for the US Navy. The classic 1006 Navy Chair was a result of this aim. Made to last for at least 150 years, lightweight, intelligent, functional and solid - because "it was the best we could do". Today, Emeco’s craftsmen in Hanover, Pennsylvania, continue to make chairs that are so resistant they are passed on from generation to generation - Emeco defines the concept of sustainability. Emeco leads the industry, explores and innovates in terms of industrial waste and environmentally-friendly resources to create and build simple and timeless furniture.
