Born in 1951 in Tel Aviv, Israel, Ron Arad is one of the most influential designers and architects of his generation. After studying at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and then at the Architectural Association in London, he founded his own studio, One Off Ltd., in 1981 in collaboration with Caroline Thorman.
He then began creating unconventional furniture, often made from welded sheet steel, and quickly gained attention for his sculptural and avant-garde pieces. His work breaks traditional furniture codes, blending functionality and art into bold, expressive forms.
In 1989, he established the firm “Ron Arad Associates Ltd.” with Canadian architect Alison Brooks, continuing to explore new design approaches. In 1994, he opened the “Ron Arad Studio” in Como, Italy, and became a guest professor of product design at the Technical University of Vienna until 1997. He later taught industrial and furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London, passing on his innovative vision to future generations of designers.
Ron Arad’s works are displayed in prestigious museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, reflecting his lasting impact on the design world. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with major international brands such as Vitra, Magis, Kartell, and Alessi.
Among his most famous creations are the Victoria & Albert collection for Moroso, characterized by organic and innovative forms, as well as the DO-LO-REZ rugs for Nanimarquina, which create a striking optical effect through their geometric design. Ron Arad remains a leading figure in contemporary design, combining experimentation, functionality, and aesthetics in each of his creations.
