Marcel Wanders

Born in the Netherlands in 1963, Marcel Wanders graduated in arts from the Arnhem Academy in 1988. After gaining early experience in one of the largest design firms in the Netherlands, he became one of the four partners of WAAC’s Design & Consultancies in 1992, a studio that quickly distinguished itself through innovative creations. In 2001, he founded Moooi with Casper Vissers, a company that would become a major force in contemporary design thanks to creations that are original, playful, and surprising.

Moooi stands out for its bold approach, collaborating with renowned designers such as Maarten Baas, Ross Lovegrove, and Studio Job. Its works are now exhibited in major museums, including the MoMA in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

In addition to his role at Moooi, Wanders collaborates with prestigious brands such as B&B Italia, Cappellini, and Poliform, as well as Magis—where he designed the Cyborg armchair—and Baccarat, for whom he creates exceptional objects such as carafes and candlesticks. His work is characterized by a strong visual identity and a constant search for balance between art and functionality.

At the same time, Wanders is also active in interior architecture, designing prestigious projects such as the Mondrian South Beach Hotel in Miami and collaborating with renowned hotel groups like Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Recipient of numerous awards, he received the Design Excellence Award in 2009 in recognition of his significant contribution and impact on the evolution of contemporary design. Wanders’ work is distinguished by his ability to combine luxury, fantasy, and innovation while exploring new materials and forms.
