George Nelson

George Nelson (1908–1986) was an American designer and architect renowned for his major influence on industrial design in the 20th century. He left a lasting mark on design history with creations that combined functionality, aesthetics, and innovation. As Design Director at Herman Miller from 1945 to 1972, he oversaw the development of furniture and objects that became iconic, such as the famous Coconut Chair and the Nelson Marshmallow Sofa. These pieces redefined the standards of modern furniture and paved the way for a new era of design.

His work with brands such as Vitra and Hay also had a significant impact, and his creations continue to be produced and admired for their timeless character. One of his most emblematic collaborations with Vitra involves the Nelson clocks, with the Nelson Ball Clock (1949) being a striking example.
