Description

A true classic of Italian design, Teti sconce, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1970 for Artemide, is seduced by the simplicity of its design and the accuracy of its proportions. Reduced to the essentials, it highlights the light source through a sober and timeless form that crosses decades without losing its modernity. Made of thermoplastic material, the Teti applique stands out for its great versatility. Usable as a wall or ceiling light, it diffuses a soft and enveloping light able to integrate harmoniously with different environments, whether residential or professional. Available in several colors, Teti illustrates the functional approach of Vico Magistretti, for whom the quality of an object lies in its ability to meet a use with evidence. Its refined design also reveals a modular dimension that allows for the free creation of luminous compositions and sequences, making this creation of Artemide an ever-present reference.

Vico MAGISTRETTI

Vico Magistretti was an Italian designer born in Milan in 1920 and died in his native city on 19 September 2006. He completed his architectural studies in 1945 and then joined his father's studio, where he took part in numerous architectural and design projects. His first professional recognition came in 1948, when he won the Grand Prix of the VIII Triennale. It was at the end of the 1950s that he created the Carimate wooden chair (for Cassina). Since then, Vico Magistretti has produced a string of bestsellers for major design houses including Artemide, Cassina, B&B Italia, O-Luce and Kartell. His work features in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art. His style is characterised by a search for simplicity. The Atollo lamp, created in 1977, with its almost abstract geometric simplicity, is emblematic of Magistretti's formal research. He teaches and lectures at a number of architecture faculties and design schools both in Italy and abroad, from Milan to New York, via Paris and London, a city with which he has particularly close links and where he has been an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art since 1983.

ARTEMIDE

In 1959, Ernesto Gismondi combines engineering and design and founds Artemide. His motto “The Human Light” represents Man and his well-being, which are at the center of attention during the design of lighting. The brand Artemide very quickly becomes the leader of lighting design and its manufacturing. The publishing house Artemide invests from its beginnings in international groups such as “Memphis” by Ettore Sotsass, a forerunner in the manufacturing of contemporary lighting. Artemide chains collaborations and the successes multiply with: the Nessino Artemide lamp, designed by Giancarlo Mattioli, the Artemide suspension, and the Artemide desk lamp is also part of these iconic creations by Artemide, combining innovative design and retro style from the 70s.
