Description

The second-hand Tibbo coffee table by Dedon, designed by the British duo Barber & Osgerby, embodies a contemporary and sensual vision of solid teak furniture. As Dedon’s first collection made entirely from this noble material, the Tibbo marks a decisive milestone for the brand: the convergence of the architectural rigour of British design with the organic warmth of the world’s most precious wood. Barber & Osgerby drew their inspiration directly from the material itself. “The beauty of turned teak has an unrivalled tactile quality,” they explain. “Due to its oily nature, the wood is particularly soft to the touch, so we wanted to create furniture that accentuates these properties.” With a top and base made from solid teak sourced from sustainable plantations, the Tibbo combines visual lightness with exemplary strength. Indoors, it retains its warm, golden hue. When exposed to the elements, it naturally develops a silvery patina which, according to its designers, “adds a new layer of quality to the design”. The Tibbo coffee table is characterised by architectural precision in its proportions and construction, tempered by the natural richness of the wood. Its sleek silhouette, with soft lines and balanced proportions, fits just as well into a contemporary interior as it does in a well-appointed outdoor space, such as a terrace, garden, loggia or patio.

BARBER OSGERBY

Born in Shrewsbury and Oxford respectively in 1969, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby studied architecture and interior design together at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1996, they set up their own agency, Barber Osgerby. The duo work at the crossroads between industrial design, furniture design and architecture. Their first design, the Loop Table, was spotted by Giulio Cappellini at the 1996 Milan Motor Show. The latter struck up a friendship with the designers, and together they developed a series of products that are now internationally recognised. Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have won numerous awards, including Best New Designer at the ICFF Editors Awards in 1998, the Good Design Award for the Tab T table lamp published by Flos in 2010, and Design of the Year 2012 for 'The London Olympic Torch'. They fold materials and like to play with colours. Their work is inspired by existing production techniques, using them in "more original and intelligent" ways. They have worked with leading brands such as Magis (Poppins umbrella stand), Vitra, Established&Sons and Cappellini. Their creations can be found in the permanent collections of museums around the world (MoMa in New York, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, etc.).

DEDON

Bobby Dekeyser founded Dedon in 1990. The idea is to create top-of-the-range woven furniture using a sophisticated, aesthetically refined and weather-resistant synthetic fibre, which is revolutionising the exterior furniture market.  Dedon defends his vision: outdoor spaces can and should be furnished with the same attention and luxury as interior spaces. Quality is a recurring theme at DEDON: the quality of its pieces, the quality of its fibres, the quality of its weaves... Hand-woven fibre creates a unique look while ensuring the exceptional quality of Dedon furniture. Dedon collections change the way people live outside and enable people from all over the world to enjoy precious moments outside.
