Description

Metafora was born in the flourishing creative climate of the early 80s, when Gae Aulenti was artistic director of Fontana Arte and wanted to put glass back at the forefront of the company's production. At the invitation of Aulenti, Umberto Riva designed the precious Metafora table lamp consisting of a conical shade in layered opal glass supported by a transparent glass base that hides the metal structure, all interlocking. Metafora is a highly aesthetic object, made with traditional techniques such as glass-blowing and other examples of artisanal skill. The originality of the design and its timeless expressions make it a design icon today.
