Metafora was born in the flourishing creative climate of the early 1980s, when Gae Aulenti was artistic director of
Fontana Arte and wanted to put glass back at the forefront of the company's production. At Aulenti's invitation, Umberto Riva has designed the precious
Metafora table lamp, made up of a conical opaline glass shade fitting over a transparent glass base that covers the metal structure.
Metafora is a highly aesthetic object, made using traditional techniques such as glassblowing and other examples of craftsmanship. The originality of the design and its timeless expressions make it a design icon today.
