Designed by Arne Jacobsen and published by Louis Poulsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Blu), the AJ luminaires were originally part of the complete design concept created for the Hotel. Arne Jacobsen not only drew up the plans for the hotel, but also imagined every detail of its interior design. Many of the products designed for this occasion are now design icons, such as the Egg and Swan armchairs. The AJ lamps have also achieved worldwide renown. The luminaire emits an asymmetrical downward light. The head of the AJ table lamp, which can be directed at 60°, can be tilted to optimise lighting. The AJ table lamp features a graphic, contemporary design based on two geometric shapes: a cylinder and a cone that form its adjustable shade. This shade is combined with a round base on which the switch is placed. The inside of the shade is painted white to give a soft, comfortable light. This table lamp features a hole at the base of the lamp, originally designed to house an ashtray, but now adding a touch of lightness and finesse to the structure. The Luminaire AJ by Louis Poulsen remain with the wire of time modern classics in the field of luminaire design.
