The
IOI collection, designed by the duo GamFratesi for
Gubi, is a celebration of Italian materiality, with the use of brass and Emperador and Carrara marble. Marble embodies a growing desire for the honesty and authenticity of organic materials. The stones are carefully selected for their colours and their vein pattern, giving each table a unique character. Drawing on Art Deco geometric references with a contemporary design language, the mirror and tables in the
IOI collection share a structure made up of thin metal rods linked by a brass sphere, reflecting the shape of the letters found in the name "IOI". The brass spheres are both functional, connecting the two metal stems and reinforcing the construction, and a design signature, emphasising the collections' lightness and materiality. The tapered legs and bevelled edges of the marble tabletop create a visual paradox by imparting the marble with a feeling of lightness. Available in three sizes, the
IOI low tables work both on their own and in combination. Like many of the GamFratesi duo's creations, the
IOI collection combines opposing ideas: the classic and the contemporary, the sober and the expressive, the manufactured and the unique. These juxtapositions, and the constant desire to challenge the status quo while respecting tradition, are embodied in the coffee tables and wall mirror
IOI.
