Description

Designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1934, the Crate collection has been relaunched as part of a collaboration between Rietveld Originals and Hay. This series of streamlined pieces of furniture was originally designed to make use of surplus wooden shipping crates. Reissued in keeping with the original design, the Crate armchair features the same perfectly balanced proportions and obvious construction to minimise production costs and optimise the assembly process. The simplicity and spatial design of the Crate armchair reflects the designer's architectural style, offering functionality and comfort without crowding the space. Published by Hay, the Crate collection is made from solid pine treated with a water-based lacquer and is suitable for a wide variety of outdoor spaces.
