Reissued by
Vitra, the
Fiberglass Chair is making a grand comeback in its original colours. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames, the
Eames Plastic Chair is one of the most important and best-known pieces of furniture of the 20th century. Indeed, its striking appearance makes it highly sought-after and establishes it as a classic of
designer furniture. The
Fibreglass Chair is the result of a new manufacturing process developed by
Vitra, enabling the seat shell to be produced in its original colours and using the original material. The
Eames Chair has been continuously improved and adapted throughout its long production history. Launched in 1950, it was the first plastic chair to be mass-produced. It also marked the introduction of the multifunctional chair, whose shell can be combined with a variety of bases – a revolutionary idea at the time that has since become widespread. The shells of the
Fibreglass Chair are distinguished by the characteristic irregular surface of fibreglass, which almost resembles a natural material thanks to its clearly visible fibres.
