Bodil Kjær est l'une des dernières pionnières vivantes du design scandinave du milieu du siècle. C'est aussi une femme pionnière dans le domaine de l'architecture à son époque et a conçu sa série Principal en 1961 dans le cadre d'une exploration architecturale des solutions d'intérieur pour la vie moderne, appelée Elements of Architecture. La série Principal est composée d'une table à manger et d'une chaise de salle à manger rembourrée. Principal incarne la perspective cosmopolite avant-gardiste de Kjær et son langage de conception moderniste qui se glisse avec fluidité dans un intérieur contemporain. La chaise Principal représente l'équilibre et la sobriété.
