Designed by Danish design studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen, the Mat chair collection is the result of years of research and development. These chairs, published by Normann Copenhagen are ingeniously crafted from hemp and eelgrass, a seaweed. With a focus on innovation and circularity, the Mat project aims to create a contemporary shell chair using sustainable materials with an environmental impact below the industry standard.
For example, Mat by Normann Copenhagen is a minimalist chair, but with a novel approach to materials. Comfortable and ergonomic, the collection includes a wide range of dining chairs and bar stools, available with or without upholstery. Exploiting the natural properties of this plant, the hull is made mainly of hemp fibre, sealed with a fully recyclable binder. The chaise Mat also comes in an iconic version incorporating eelgrass, another natural resource with many excellent qualities and a distinctive aesthetic. The shells are mounted on a simple powder-coated steel base, available in two colours.
