The Bruce Springsteel wall light by Ingo Maurer reimagines the spotlight in a radically reduced form, focused entirely on the essence of light. True to the Munich studio's unconventional spirit, it continues the lineage of designs such as Spock and the low-voltage YaYaHo system, renowned for their radical simplicity and technical sophistication. Wall-mounted, its wires curve out into the room and the light appears to float in mid-air; on the ceiling, it offers the same freedom, with a spotlight that pivots in every direction to place light exactly where the space needs it. Combined in groups, several Bruce Springsteel lights create a rhythmic composition of lines and points of light that shifts with every perspective, ideal for bringing a living room wall, a hallway or a reception area to life. Its wire suspension, developed by the brand's design team in collaboration with designer Jan Penka, relies on two loops of fine yet resilient spring steel that intersect to hold the spotlight in perfect balance: centred, it looks symmetrical, and as soon as it moves, the wires flex into new arcs. Power runs directly through these slender wires, with no cable at all, heightening the sense of weightlessness. A lighting module kept as small as possible yet delivering impressive brightness, a body designed for highly efficient cooling, a subtly illuminated rear that adds spatial depth, and dual use as a wall or ceiling light: Bruce Springsteel embodies the quiet yet precise counterpoint that Ingo Maurer brings to its most expressive creations.
