With the Howard collection, the designers at Space Copenhagen wanted to pay homage to New York City, to its industrial aesthetic dominated by dark metals. Originally designed for the Howard Hotel in Manhattan's SoHo district, the Howard lighting series was inspired by the materiality and colours of the hotel's neighbourhood. With subtle references to the industrial atmosphere of New York, the Howard luminaires incorporate refined and elegant details. It's a complete range of luminaires with a coherent design and unified aesthetic that can be deployed in interiors, restaurants and hotels. The different luminaires work both on their own and in combinations of several models. With its elongated shape and gunmetal finish, the applique Howard edited by Gubi is both elegant and discreet. It creates an almost magical sensation in any environment, especially when used in multiples on a wall. With its indirect light, the applique Howard works very well for ambient lighting, in a kitchen, hallway or living room.
Space Copenhagen is a Danish multidisciplinary design studio founded in 2005 by Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou. They work at the crossroads of disciplines, from furniture and lighting to art installations, interior design for private homes, hotels and restaurants around the world, and art direction. Their ambition is to blaze new trails by balancing opposites: classic and modern, industrial and organic, light and shade, duality and contrast. They call their approach Poetic Modernism. The principles of functionality, slow design and the study of human behaviour guide their work. The result is quality and longevity. Their various collaborations with Fredericia, AndTradition, Gubi and Mater demonstrate their ability to break with codes and constantly renew themselves. The Swoon armchair is one of their iconic creations. The use of soft colours and natural materials such as wood, stone, leather and brass develop a patina over time and lend a certain charm to objects.
