Anna Castelli Ferrieri

Anna Castelli Ferrieri (1918–2006) was an Italian architect and designer, a pioneer of industrial design and modern furniture. She is best known for her collaborations with the brand Kartell, with which she developed several iconic pieces of Italian design.

Although she began her career as an architect, it was in the field of furniture design that she truly made history. She was one of the first to experiment with the use of plastic in furniture—a revolutionary approach at the time. Her work is rooted in the industrial design movement, where technological innovation and functionality merge with a strong aesthetic dimension.

Among her most famous creations is the Componibili storage unit, launched in 1967. This modular plastic piece, both functional and visually striking, has become a design classic. Componibili is still produced today and remains one of Kartell’s most iconic pieces, perfectly illustrating Castelli Ferrieri’s functional and innovative design approach.

Her work is characterized by simple forms, the use of vibrant colors, and a commitment to making design accessible to as many people as possible. She helped transform furniture into an everyday object that combines practicality and durability while preserving a strong aesthetic quality. Her influence endures in contemporary design, and her legacy lies in her ability to blend aesthetics, functionality, and technical innovation—making her creations timeless references.
