Angelo Mangiarotti

Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was a renowned Italian architect and designer, recognized for his innovative and minimalist approach to design and architecture. Born in Milan, Mangiarotti studied at the Polytechnic University of Milan, where he developed a passion for materials, geometric forms, and the search for innovative structural solutions.

His work, both in architecture and design, is marked by great rigor and a particular attention to materials, which he considered essential elements in shaping forms. Mangiarotti succeeded in blending tradition and modernity by working with materials such as marble, wood, glass, and steel, often with remarkable technical mastery. His creations are characterized by pure geometric forms—simple yet powerful—and a strong sense of functionality.

In design, Mangiarotti created furniture, objects, and interior architectural elements that combined aesthetics and pragmatism. Among his most famous creations are his modular chairs, marble and glass tables and shelves, and ceramic objects. These pieces often exemplify his intelligent use of materials, such as his iconic “Eros” marble table, a refined example of sophisticated simplicity.

Mangiarotti collaborated with numerous prestigious companies, including Skipper, Knoll, Agapecasa, and Vitra, and his creations continue to be produced and admired for their quality and timeless vision. He also taught at universities and participated in large-scale architectural projects both in Italy and abroad.

His body of work reflects a constant quest for harmony between form, function, and structure. Angelo Mangiarotti remains an influential figure in the fields of design and architecture, leaving behind a legacy defined by his unique ability to unite technology, aesthetics, and materials.
